Very often, poor running can be attributed to bad choke gaskets. The gaskets have a tendency to get sucked in at the rounded TIP: . This is even oftentimes visible without even removing or disassembling the carburetor. Often when the gasket has failed, you can look at the inboard side of the carburetor and see daylight beneath the choke housing. When this happens, unmetered and unfiltered air enters the carburetor and poor starting and a poor idle are the symptoms.
